I study how people understand, negotiate, and maintain control in data-driven and AI-mediated systems.

I am a Ph.D. student in the School of Information at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in the Security, Privacy, and Usability Lab, where I am fortunate to be advised by Prof. Florian Schaub and Prof. Christopher Brooks.

My research sits at the intersection of privacy, human-computer interaction, and AI. I am especially interested in how people make sense of complex systems, negotiate privacy and control with other stakeholders, and adapt their behavior as AI systems become more autonomous. Methodologically, I use mixed methods including large-scale surveys, vignette experiments, statistical modeling, and qualitative analysis.

I hold an M.Sc. in Applied Psychology from Zhejiang University and a B.Sc. in Psychology from Southwest University. Previously I was a research assistant at Johns Hopkins University with Prof. Yaxing Yao. I have also been fortunate to work alongside Prof. Danny Yuxing Huang (New York University) and Prof. Haojian Jin (UC San Diego).

How people negotiate privacy, access, and control around connected devices and sensing systems, especially when multiple stakeholders share the same physical or social space.

Human–AI interaction & LLMs

How people understand, trust, disclose to, and make decisions with conversational AI and large language models, with a focus on privacy, mental models, and everyday use.

Human–agentic AI interaction

How people maintain awareness, agency, and meaningful control as AI systems move from responding to prompts toward taking actions, coordinating tasks, and acting on users' behalf.

Designed and administered two vignette-based online studies (N=400 and N=867) examining tenants' privacy-negotiation preferences in smart homes and short-term rentals; managed large-scale recruitment and data collection; conducted quantitative analysis in R and qualitative thematic analysis; developed design implications for privacy-negotiation tools and clearer privacy disclosures.
